Day #5

War Memorial Museum

Today morning, we went to the War Memorial Museum. There, we learned about the wars happened in ancient Korea and saw many airplanes and missiles exhibited there used in the wars. We  were able to enter several of their planes to experience being in the  airplanes! It was truly fascinating as we learned more about the Korean culture each passing day.

National Museum of Korea

Our next destination is the National Museum of Korea. It is a huge museum with 3 levels of exhibits and because of the shortage of time, we only managed to finish the first level. The few things we saw were the golden crown, the tomb stone and the 10-storey pagoda. We learned many things during this museum trip and enjoyed ourselves very much.J

Then, we had lunch at the food court in the museum. A few things we ordered were spaghetti, fried rice and chicken cutlet. The food was delicious!

Taekwondo training at Seoul Physical Education Middle School

After lunch, we had our second training at the Seoul Physical Education Middle School. We started off by doing some stretching on our own. Soon after the coaches arrived, we started the lesson proper. Our Taekwondo team ran one round around their track. Many of us had little stamina and couldn't finish the one round. Next, we did some basic kicking and defense skills. It was through these trainings with the Korean instructors that we have learnt about Korea’s high standards of Taekwondo and we know that we have to train harder with discipline and perseverance so that we can meet their standards.

After our training, we had ginseng chicken for our dinner. It was delicious!

Shopping at Hongik University Street

Finally, after our dinner, we went shopping at Hongik University Street! The streets were decorated with bright neon lights and the sales people were at the street promoting their products. We were splited into our individual groups and went around the street hunting for souvenirs with the teachers leading the groups. This picture shows us (Group 1) eating ice-cream at one of the shops. Thanks to Miss Tan for this delicious treat! ^^

Reflections:

Since it was late when we reached the hotel and we needed to pack our luggages as we will be having an early check-out at the hotel, we ended with a short debrief before heading back to our rooms.

All the facilities that we have visited were of the olympic standard as Olympics in 1988 was held in Seoul. Unfortunately, we din't get the chance to see any students in action as it was still early and they were still having lesson.

Taekwondo Training at Seoul Physical Education Middle School
We had taekwondo training with 4 black belt trainees at Seoul Physical Middle School today. We did a variety of kicks such as front kick, turning kick, back thrust, and many more. Everyone had lots of fun during the training. It was indeed a great experience for all of us.

Seoul Citizen Safety Training

There's a training center in Seoul to educate and prepare the residence what to do and how to evacuate when natural disasters and danger occurs. Through technology, we experienced earthquakes, typhoon, smoke and fire situations.
